Rudolph
This has always been one of my favorite names. I used to ask about it on here years ago and it had a few fans and mainly detractors. Have things evolved? I just don't think about the reindeer in my life very often, but I get that it connotes that to people.

I like Rudy but not Rudolph. I can’t help but think of the reindeer when I hear Rudolph.
I feel petulant about people thinking the reindeer thing matters. It's not really any worse an association than Casper ... and people seem to have evolved on that.
Rudolph / Rudy would be a cool name, at least on the right person.
I guess it could seem unfortunate on some people. Okay. But that's true about a lot of names.

Were it not a reindeer name, it would be a "German general with gallantry award and a greyhound" name, which doesn't sound very appealing to me either.
Agreed
OMG "German general with gallantry award and a greyhound"
That is a BRILLIANT description! I think a lot of my favorite male names fit it. HA!

I like Rudy. Rudolph not so much.
its the first thing that comes to mind, what about Rupert or Reuben
I love it! It's a noble name with a gentle, even cuddly feel. Plus, Rudy's an adorable nickname.
It's ok.
It's okay, but I really just can't get past the reindeer. If it weren't for the reindeer, I'd probably like it much more.
I'm trying to see it without thinking of reindeer:
It's stately, but also fusty.
"Rudy" as a nickname feels bratty and sounds a lot like the word rude.
Rudolf Hess was a vile human being.
I just can't get behind it, even if the reindeer connotations did not exist.
Ralph and Rafael/ Raphael on the other hand, I can get behind.
Other "Ru" suggestions:
Runar
Rufus
Rupert
Rutger
Ruslan
Other "Dolph" suggestions:
Randolph
Rodolfo
