I saw this name in Hamilton and liked it. It's complex and unusual and pretty. Do y'all think it's going to zoot out of obscurity? It felt very workable in the context of the song.

I love the song, Dear Theodosia! I think it is really pretty and a nice alternative to Theodora.

I saw it on Broadway in 2015 and greatly enjoyed it, but the show's politics are lame and distasteful.
"Dear Theodosia" is a lovely song, though, and I was touched by Renée Elise Goldberry's and Leslie Odom, Jr.'s performances!

Would be happy for you to expand on this if you want - I wonder if you mean the political message of the show itself? Or how society handles the show? Or what. lol I don't wonder super urgently though so if you don't want to get into it that's OK too. Yes they did very well, didn't they? The cast was invested well into their characters I feel

This has been a favorite of mine for well over a decade. I remember posting about it years and years ago and most didn't like it lol Then Hamilton came about and has made it more well-known, a little less "weird", and more acceptable-- which I love!

A few years ago when I first listened to the soundtrack of the Broadway show, I read that Theodosia had a small uptick in usage because of Hamilton. It looks like it had two surges in usage-- in 2017 and 2020 according to babycenter. I don't think it will zoot out of obscurity quite yet, if only because of it being recognized in the play and song, and because people like me fell in love with it upon hearing it. Will it be popular or get on the top 1000 name list? Probably not.

Came out on July 3! Big splash everywhere. My mom threw a little party about it. She's the only Hamilton maniac in the family though so we all just sat there quietly while she was pumping her fists etc.

Oh man I hope it doesn’t shoot up in popularity. I love it & and want it to stay in the sweet spot of uncommon but somewhat familiar due to its similarity to Theodora and its use in Hamilton.

I don’t think it’ll rise much in popularity, even with Hamilton being so popular. It’s been the biggest musical on Broadway for some time now, and nothing has happened.
Plus, when I introduce Theodora I can tell that most people aren’t immediately falling head over heels for her name, and it’s arguably the more accessible and well-known of the two.
I like Theodosia a lot. No surprise there! I think the nickname Dozey would be cute, especially since kids are kind of adorable when they’re tired. (Blinky eye-rubbing tired, not tantrum tired.)

This name isn't new to me via "Hamilton", because I've been aware of it since I was a kid and first read "My Theodosia" by Anya Seton, which is about the same Theodosia in "Hamilton". After liking (but not loving) the book for all these years, I was intrigued to listen to the song about Theodosia from "Hamilton." Alas, I found it disappointing. I just don't like "Hamilton".
Anyway, I've thought it a pretty name since that first exposure. Much better than Theodora. But Theodosia Burr is referred to as Theo throughout "My Theodosia" and I'm not a fan of that nickname, so it's not a name I would use.

I didn't care a whole lot about the song either. I wonder if I'll grow to be addicted to Hamilton like my mom. I think it's more about the whole impression of the entire thing than the individual songs, and I don't think LMM's strength is in ... melodic writing.

I absolutely hate this name. I would usually try not to use the word hate, but here I have to. I really, really hate it. It is sickly and sugary and dusty and fussy and all the other bad things. It's like ... Theodosia is a sticky old dessert with canned cherries covered in cat hair.

I can see it being used for nicknames Theo and Thea. It is very pretty and with the popularity of Hamilton it might crack the top 1000.

I'm a big Broadway fan so this name has been on my radar for a few years. I adore it and I think it's more usable now than it has been in the past hundred years, especially since Thea is a cute and popular nickname.
Besides that, I've been writing about a Russian character named Feodosia for a decade now and I think that's really pretty too.

I way prefer Feodosia, I think I just dont like The- names but they are both very pretty!
