I don't think most people would automatically spell "sky-ler" that way, and they might not read Schuyler correctly the first time, but they should be able to take direction.
The only "sky-ler" I've met (we went to middle school together) spelled his name Schuyler, and I remembered the spelling easily because I thought it was weird.
Schuyler is obviously a surname-as-first name, which makes it seem fancier than other versions, and I do prefer it.
Skyler looks to me like a variation of Sky, Skye, Kyler, Tyler. I'd rather just see Sky / Skye, I dislike Kyler, and I hate Tyler.
