Since I'm Polish, I was thrilled to hear she won (even though I admit I haven't read any of her works yet. Also, this is unrelated, but today my teacher enjoyed the poem I had to write for class so much she said I might be her successor and be the next Pole to win the prize which I think was sweet of her :) but back to the name). However, I really dislike her name.
Ola is an extremely common diminutive of
Aleksandra here, and practically every
Aleksandra goes by it. I've always thought it weak, boring, and insubstantial, but I think
Olga is even worse than
Ola - the "g" sounds very unpleasant and harsh to me.
