I counted the top 10s from every month to find "BTN's Favorite Names", as I have done for the last several years.
This year had the second LOWEST participation of all time, with an average of 32 people a month sharing their top 10. 1003 unique girl and 777 unique boy names were posted.
I count like the SSA. Accents don't count (Léo and Leo are the same). If you posted combos, only the first name counted. And if you had a tie, I counted the first name ("Luke / Lukas / George, can't decide = point for Luke). Only 10 names per person per gender were counted, so if you tried to sneakily post an 11th or 12th name, it won't be here. And if you mistyped, I counted your error, because I can't read minds.
Last year's top names were Violet and Alexander.
We have a new #1 on both sides.
For girls, we struggled to really love anything this year. Our new number 1, Florence received the least number of points for any number 1 ever. Florence was #3 last year (and it had more points last year than this year!)
For boys, it was a close race, but we're returning to an old favorite -- Arthur was #1 from 2014 - 2016 and is back again.
Here's the top 17 for girls and top 25 for boys.
1. Florence (34, 0.87%)
2. Juliet (32, 0.82%)
3. Hazel (31, 0.79%)

Just wanted to say thank you for putting so much work into this. You're a star =)
It's fascinating to me to see Cassidy on the boys list instead of the girls list. For the general American public, Cassidy is now overwhelmingly female. There were 864 girls born in the USA in 2018 named Cassidy and only 73 boys -- and that's not taking alternative spellings into account, and they almost surely skew even more in the female direction. :)
I noticed when I was looking at the SSA list a few months ago that, in general, boy's Cass- names were trending up and girl's Cass- names were trending down!

Not that it means that Cassidy for a boy will be in the top 1000 any time soon though. Only 2 people had to consistently like Cassidy for it to rank where it does on this BTN chart.

Fern really sticks out to me in the feminine list. I don't remember seeing Fern on these tallies before, and now she's at #5!
I'm certain I contributed to the heavy popularity of Lydia, Josephine, Sabrina, Eleanor, Ursula, Isaac, Nicholas, Nathaniel, and of course Dominic, Donovan, Malcolm, and Wesley (who I think have all been consistently in my Top 10 for years).
Thank you for taking time out of your day to do these lists!

BTN has great taste in names! ;-) Thank you for putting this together, very interesting to go through.
Aw only one or two names I chose made it to this list (Euphemia and possibly Astrid). I was hoping to disrupt the establishment a little. d:
I for one am glad Alexander was knocked off it's throne; I'm so tired of seeing it on every single list and every poll...
Still, it's nice to see our name trends laid out so plainly like this, thanks for the hard work. :)

It could be considered disrupting the establishment for the girl's side to be so diverse that we ended up with the lowest #1 of all time? In order to get on these charts, a name had to be listed by at least 2 people.

In the Top 20 of all time reply, Alexander is now the #1 boy's name on BtN. So even though he wasn't #1 this year, he still dethroned Henry.
Most of these are charming, and I really appreciate the effort you went through :)

Those are two lovely lists and although many in there are not quite my taste, there are many that I´d love to see used on someone else´s child. Thank you making these lists!
