WDYTO Margaret?
Replies
I haven't read any of the other replies, but I feel compelled to let you know right off the bat that Margaret Pearl is etymologically redundant (Margaret comes from the Greek word for pearl).
That aside, Margaret is one of the few classic names that I have never been able to "get behind," so to speak. The way I say it, Margaret has 2 syllables instead of 3, and the final syllable sounds like "grit." It is a very unattractive sound to my ears, unfortunately - though the French Marguerite is quite pretty. (I guess there's a lot to be said for drawing out the end of the name.)
Margaret isn't "pretty," but feminine names don't always have to be "pretty." I perceive the Margarets of the world to have their heads fastened securely to their shoulders and backbones firmly straight.

I love and support Margaret whole-heartedly.
hon, I think it's your default bc Margaret MEANS pearl. lol don't worry, though - I used to love Anna Grace as a combo, and as we all know Anna means grace. :)
Anyway, I'm starting to like Margaret in the fn slot, too, though the only nickname I like out of it is Meg. (other ones like Peggy and Marge are really dated to me)
Some other combo suggestions:
Margaret Abigail
Margaret Avery
Margaret Brianna
Margaret Brooke
Margaret Caroline
Margaret Cassandra
Margaret Cecilia
Margaret Chloe
Margaret Dakota
Margaret Eleanor
Margaret Evelyn
Margaret Isabella
Margaret Jasmine
Margaret Jessica
Margaret Julia
Margaret Lily
Margaret Naomi
Margaret Natalia
Margaret Olivia
Margaret Phoebe
Margaret Quinn
Margaret Savannah
Margaret Sierra
Margaret Zoe

I know a lot of people love it but I’ve always found it dowdy and old-womanish.
Hi !!!
I love the combo Margaret Pearl because they have the same meaning!
I dislike Margaret alone. I prefer Margherita that in Italian also means "daisy".

Margaret Pearl is ridiculous, but Margaret is a name I've always loved and would have used happily.
In South Africa the default nn for Margaret (when there were enough Margarets for this to make sense) was Margie, with the g as in Gloria, not Gillian. And I dislike that intensely! Maggie is OK, Meg is too close to tired Megan, and Peggy just isn't natural any more. I once knew a Peggy who was just that - Peggy; no mn. And that worked just fine.
I don't know why people seem to prefer Margot and Marguerite to Margaret!

Margaret is what I call a "handsome" name. I don't find it pretty, however, I do love several of its nns and would consider it as a mn (and have considered it as a mn with my youngest) for a dd. My mother was named Margaret Ellen Mae ("Margie"). The nns I like best are Meg and Daisy. I've even considered Marguerite Sophie with the nn Daisy although I'm not sure I'd actually go through with that.
Margaret Pearl is sweetly old fashioned and very fitting due to the meaning.

It’s my name.
I go back and forth on how much I like having it. I like that it’s old and well used but not too common on women my age and I like that it’s not very feminine and sort of ugly sounding. In theory! Sometimes I wish I had a more modern or feminine sounding name. I think it’s more stylish today though than when I was born (1997) and objectively it’s not a bad name. I go by Maggie, which I also vascilate on. Sometimes I think it’s cute and friendly, other times too childish and it does sound like maggot. I’m fond of Greta.

It’s boring. As are all the nicknames derived from it.
I love it. It's my partner's daughters name.
