I think of it as really dated and can only imagine a white van man with a grease stained wife-beater tee. That or a Mafioso fixer.
I really don't like it! To me, it sounds old, heavy, and ugly - the only saving grace it has for me is the association with Robert the Bruce, although that still reinforces the "old" feeling. There's a girl in my Brownie unit called Arwen who has a younger brother called Bruce, and hearing that was a shock.
I like it, but it does sound heavy and kind of dated to me.

I don’t know why, but to me it always sounds like a big dumb ox of a man.
Might be its similarity to the words "brute" / "bruiser"?

I like Bruce Springsteen, so by extension I like the name :)
