Irish surnemes and their original names
Hi !!!
I give you an example:
Sheridan comes from Ó Sirideáin that means "descendant of Sirideán". Sirideán is a given name meaning "searcher" (also possibly "wild") in Gaelic.
Is Sirideán used in Ireland?
Anyway..
WDYTO using this kind of surnames as given names?
Do you prefer at the contrary the original Gaelic names (if they are still used)?
What are your favourite Irish/Anglicized Irish surnames to use as given names?

I really think it's a neat idea. There's a lot of cool Gaelic names that didn't end up with easily pronounceable Anglicized forms. The meanings behind them are really awesome, and I frankly don't understand why some of them weren't Anglicized without having to go through a surname first.
I like the original Gaelic names, they're really awesome, but, it's hard for me, not to mention many people, in Anglophone regions to pronounce them. The whole Anglicization thing is really about pronunciation to me, to make it easy to quickly know how to say them.
My favorite Anglicized Irish names that went through surnames are Donovan, Nolan, Casey and Ryan.
