Australian Newspaper Names- Ipswich
So I've finally finished my tally of names of children who started school this January in the Ipswich, Queensland area here in Australia. There were 4137 children from 93 schools, all of whom are 5 or turning 5 before the end of June. This year I also did a tally of children who started school in the Gold Coast area (which I posted last month). There were a few names that ranked high on one list but not the other: Ava, Isla and Savannah were more popular on the GC whereas Amelia, Jack and Charlotte were higher on the Ipswich list. Ava and Oliver topped the GC; Oliver and Amelia won out in Ipswich. Here is the link:https://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/5009074As for the comparison from the same area last year, Ruby and Jackson blitzed the rest in 2018. This year there were only 15 students named Ruby compared to last year's 40! Jackson, also the name of 40 kids last year, dropped to 31 in 2019. A lot more 5-year-old-Aussies are named Sophia, Harrison and Jack than the now 6-year-olds of last year. Link:https://www.behindthename.com/bb/baby/4929128Anyway, enough of that. Here were the top names from Ipswich schools, 2019. I counted the different spellings but, for simplicity, didn't include them here. Out of 4137 children: Oliver – 37

Amelia is so popular in so many countries, but I still do like her so it's nice to see this name here. Same about Jack and Jackson, LOVE these names! Sophia, Chloe and Isabella are very endearing names, I especially adore Isabella, I slightly prefer Sophie to Sophia. Eli and Elijah and William are great too, so is Ella and Isabelle. Also I really like Samuel, and kind of like Chelsea. Lucas and Flynn are nice as well. Evelyn is gorgeous! I like both Michael and Michaela, but Michaela is much more interesting, though I especially love it pronounced mee-kah-E-lah or mee-khah-E-lah, not like Makayla. Annabelle is cute. I really really love Declan! Nathaniel and Xander are cool. Bluebell has such an interesting charm to it, it has been on my mind since a while so great to see it here, it's very cute and my guilty pleasure name. Bibi-Chanel - sounds interesting... Wow, Coolie, mixed feelings about this one - the sound itself is nice but the name feels bold and a bit too "cool" to me. - Elysshianah sounds interesting but the spelling is off-putting for me, looks overdone. Ennvy...( . Jewelistah looks and sounds weird. Wonder if Kooch might have any conotations with the Welsh word cwtch - hug - maybe that's what inspired the parents, not a fan of the name anyway. Xylee-Zoel sounds very futuristic I'd say, interesting. So sad to see all those kree8tivve spellings of beautiful names, definitely unnecessary imo, but points for unusual creativity which indeed deserves a shout out. :D

OdysseusI love seeing Odysseus on the list! I’ve fallen in love with it lately and it’s so cool to see it on a real child. It was also neat seeing Iolanthe on the list, and I loved your notation about Ruby’s downfall.Aaliyah’s also been growing on me for some time now.

I’m quite fond of Sophia (with the old British pronunciation, in my family) and Eli. Also nice to see Seth and Malachi getting some love. Those last two categories are something else; some head-shakers there. As an aside, my gr grandfather was born in Queensland during the gold rush; near Charters Towers. :)
