I kind of like Clarence, but not enough to use it.
I'd think they were probably named after their grandfathers and maybe a great uncle.

There's a woman who lives near my mother, and she has a bunch of dogs. I forget how many, but the ones I remember are named Donald, Randall, and Eugene. She has a very loud, carrying voice with a New York accent and when she yells at the dogs or calls them while they're talking a walk, it sounds like she might be yelling at three old men. If I didn't know her husband was dead and that his name was Bernie, I'd think one of those was him.
