What do you think of this herb name?

Love it!It’s my and DH top pick for a boy. We especially like it pronounced like the herb, but that’s how the Orthodox Saint’s name is pronounced (in the US anyway) and that is important to us.

I think it sounds dweeby pronounced like the herb...about like Banjo or Hazael might...and my first associations are pizza and the word basal (by extension, basal cell carcinoma). But it also has some great symbolism, which I can respect.I think it's stylish...like, dapper, maybe excessively so, maybe not...pronounced the other way. Reminds me of Cecil but less annoying and Balthasar but more tame. Also Basil "Baz" kind of reminds me of Sebastian, stylewise.

Not an herb name, to me. The name is BAZ-ul, rhyme dazzle, and the herb is BAY-zul rhyme Hazel.
It's old-fashioned and dorky IMO. Nigel or Myron seems hip by comparison.
I'd rather see Vasily or Basilio. If it were an herb name, prn. to rhyme Hazel ... I dunno, it seems flakey. Good for a dog.

I know a Basil. He has younger brothers named Costas and Kyros. It's okay, but it's too ethnic for me to ever use, I think.

I don’t think of it as an herb name. It has a different origin, and in my area, a completely different pronunciation. BAZ-ul for the name and BAY-zil for the herb. I like it, but it’s not a top name for me. It just kind of hangs out on my list because I don’t dislike it, not because I’d use it.

I like it pronounced BAZ-uhl, not like the herb. It has a sort of classy old-school aristocratic vibe, in a good way.

I LOVE it, though I’m not brave enough to use it on a human. It’s on my list for a future pet though — ideally a pig, haha.

Just makes me think of Fawlty Towers.

Love the herb, don't like the name. It has the same vibe to me as Olive... I know they're both names in their own right, but I can't help picturing the food.
