Halcyon

Hi !!!
I much prefer Alcyone!
Infact I totally miss the link with both birds and the adjective. We use the adjective 'ameno' (amoenus).

I like it - and my likeness magnifies - exponentially - with Hallie as a nickname.
The association I have is from TS Eliot's Dry Salvages (from Four Quartets) -and this association is not negative; nor does imply that this name should not be used. Again I really love the nickname you suggested.
"...And the ragged rock in the restless waters,
Waves wash over it, fogs conceal it;
On a halcyon day it is merely a monument,
In navigable weather it is always a seamark
To lay a course by: but in the sombre season
Or the sudden fury, is what it always was..."

It's not my style personally, but I do find it interesting. I love when names come from mythology, and the bird association is a bonus. I'd like to see others with the name.
I think it has a very pretty sound and feels very wearable. I liked it more a few years ago and have sort of gone off it. It's a name that I wouldn't use because it somehow doesn't feel right for me, but I'd be pleased to see it on someone else's kid.
I like it mostly.
The little part of dislike is due to the name simply sounding a little made up. Otherwise - It sounds pretty. I could certainly see a sweet, even-tempered, adventurous person wearing this name. It has an air of freedom and escapism due to its connection to the celestial and bird reference. It has a calming effect.
