That makes some sense; but if they are likely to spend their lives in an English-speaking society, it will always look like something frivolous rather than meaningful.

I couldn't have pegged it as Polish in particular, but it definitely looks foreign, rather than creative, to me.
I think I'd have assumed it was foreign even if I wasn't into names, but I'm not sure. It might be because I know there are a jillion spellings of Kris-names in different languages.

That's interesting. Do you think it's because you're educated when it comes to names or do you think (most?) people would be able to tell from the spelling?
Probably knowledgeable, plus I grew up in DC which has a pretty diverse population.
