This is my cousin's name. I love the Arthurian legend connection! The sounds "GAR" and "eth" I think are both pretty homely, but in a sweet way...if that makes sense, haha.

I like it, but I knew a Gareth who pronounced his name just like Garth, which I'm not so keen about, and because of that, whenever I see Gareth I think "Garth". But it's not a bad name at all, pronounced correctly.

I like it a lot, and given enough sons, I'd use it happily. It's never been popular enough to become unpopular, not where I live anyway, and it's got a good Tennysonian-Arthurian vibe besides making me think of Welsh rugby players. Also, it's short enough not to attract nicknames, or I hope it is: Gary isn't in the same league at all.

It has a very medieval/fantasy/rock vibe to it. I would use for a kid more than a character as i feel like i've seen it used on too many characters, but as for the kid it's not in my top ten but it would be refreshing to see today.

Because I have a son named Garrett, Gareth sounds "off" to me. I realize they are not related in origin (presumably), but that doesn't make Gareth sound any better to me.
