Casper vs Caspian
So i'm thinking at the moment our top two names are Percival/Percy and either Casper or Caspian.I really can't decide which I like better out of Casper or Caspian.Hubby and I both love Caspian, but wonder if Casper would sound better with Theodora. And whether Caspian sounds more 'modern' and less traditional than Casper. Also there is actually a very strange kid at school named Caspian. So I am wondering if i'm less wanting to use Caspian because people that I work with might think that I named our kid after him.. and because he is quite odd, I don't know if that is putting me off it a bit?
Opinions? :)

Definitely Casper! I agree with cayden & Ninor: Caspian is fairly trendy and modern, and I too would expect the siblings of Caspian to have more modern names, IE: Grey/ Gray, Greyson, Bentley, Avery. Or Scifi/ Fantasy or Mythological names like Kylo, Leia, Arwen, Strider, Elessar, Aramis, Thorin, Stryker, Thor, Loki, Atlas, Apollo etc...

I think Caspian sounds much more handsome than Casper.

I like Caspian better. Casper just makes me think of Casper the Friendly Ghost.

I like both - but I only have Casper on my short list and it sometimes feel like he has announced himself as Casper - but I'm still trying other names. I like that Caspian is more unusual, at least where I live. But whenever I was saying it out lout I thought it sounded weird, and that's why it's off my list. I think both Casper and Caspian would work fine with Theodora, but Casper is, style wise, a little more in the same league as Theodora. I'd expecting Caspian's siblings to have a bit more modern/trendy names.

Caspian over Casper for sure. Caspian just has this mysterious quality to it, which sounds appealing. I also prefer Caspian to Percival / Percy. Although Percy on its own is kind of cute, in an awesome retro way. Theodora and Caspian works the best imo.

Caspian is too Sea and also too Narnia. Casper probably isn't The Friendly Ghost any more, so that would be my choice.

I definitely prefer Casper. It’s more timeless and traditional, whereas Caspian is definitely current and trendy. The sound and spelling is also a bit more down to earth.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with Caspian. I'm not a big fan of either, but Casper is comical, to me.Percival/Percy is cute, though. If I met a little Percival, I would love it.

I absolutely love both, love everything about both. I don't really get sibsets. Unless the names completely clash (Catherine and Nakole) or are too similar (Joseph and Joel), I don't get how some names sound good and others don't as a sibset. And that's shown in others responses, it's a matter of personal opinion or what you like best.As for the kid at school...that's also personal. It's your kid, you don't have to explain it to the others at school. The only way I wouldn't use it is if the kid ruined it for you and you no longer liked it. And why would they think you're naming your son after the weird kid? You're worried because there's only one...so give the school another association, a positive one, and show them how wonderful of a name it is.

I don't think there's a wrong answer here. Casper is positively swoon worthy with Theodora. It's classic and handsome yet still on trend. Caspian is gorgeous and fits well too, but has a more mystical quality.I wouldn't worry about the one at school. If I was I would just say "like from Narnia" when first introducing his name maybe. A bad association, even a potentially transient one can certainly cause trouble. Hector might have been Toby if it weren't for the local strip club Tobie's.

CaspianI think Casper probably does fit better with Theodora, but Caspian’s always going to get my vote. There’s just so much going for him; some amazing imagery, the nature connection with the Caspian Sea, and the magical, whimsical aspect from Narnia. And to me Caspian doesn’t comes across as all that modern. Probably because of the Narnia association, Caspian reminds me of old castles, adventure, vintage maps, and daring deeds, that sort of thing, and not pasrticularly modern. I would still use it despite the child at school, since he’s going to grow up and leave at some point, and it’d be a shame not to use a name you love for a temporary association.

Yeah I get what you're saying about the kid at school, it's just he's the only kid at the school with the name so I think people I work with would put the two together.
Also the other kids at school would possibly assume so. I also just wonder if Caspian is a bit trendy sounding.

I don't think Caspian sounds trendy. I agree with the reasons it sounds older (especially because of the Caspian Sea). Casper definitely sounds trendy though.

I think Caspian is great but Casper is kind of annoying. And Caspian would definitely sound better with Theodora!
I have the exact opposite impression about the modern vs. traditional thing. Casper fits in more with names like Carter and Tanner IMO. As for the other kid named Caspian... idk. Do you already have a middle name picked out? Because you could go with Percival Caspian or Caspian Percival and call him Percy. Or use a name like Cassius, Cassian, Casimir, Crispin, etc.

Casperby miles. I think it sounds better with Theodora, and Caspian doesn't just sound more modern and less traditional - it is, it wasn't used as a name at all before the book.

Casper by far.
