Amber vs. Ember
Which would you choose, and why? Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I would go with Amber. I like them both but Amber is more familiar sounding and I like the meaning better.

Amber, without a second's thought. Ember just sounds like Amber with a funny accent, and the image of an ember is not as pretty as with Amber.

Ember... the only reason I'm sure of, is because it's newer. Amber has been done, and now has an image attached. For me it's kind of a blah image.
But I never liked Amber, ever since I first heard it - and I've liked Ember ever since I heard it. So I dunno. It's just something about aesthetic appeal to me personally. Amber the material is a nicer image than ember, but as a name I just feel like Ember is nicer. Ember is stored energy, Amber is a pretty fossil. I dunno, if the meanings were switched I'd still like Ember and not Amber!

With no associations, they're both very similar sounding word names. With associations, Amber is tainted by its former trendiness and Ember is much better.ETA: I take that back. Ember is better wven without associations because that first vowel sound in Amber is kind of ugly. There are also too many way to say it, while the first vowel in Ember is similar and sounds good in many different accents.

Amber. I hate Ember. Amber’s always been a pretty name imo.

Gosh, that's a hard one. They both have such beautiful imagery... I think I'd go with Ember. It makes me think of bonfires on summer nights and fireplaces in winter.

I like both. I would choose Ember if I was naming an actual baby right now, just because I don’t think a girl born today would want a name so associated with the 80s. I like the imagery I get from both, though, and the sounds. The thing about Amber is that it seems almost too pretty for a real live woman to live up to, and I’d think maybe Ember would be the same, but I’ve never met any.

Ember.
Ember = glowing, warm, potential for power (embers can be stoked back up to roaring fires). Amber = sticky, probably has flies in it. Plus, Amber's just so dated to me, it's someone my age or slightly older. it's tired.

Amber! Jewel names are some of my favorites.

Amber is among my most despised names ever. I think the only name that beats Amber is Brianna. It's just tacky with a capital T. Ember seems juvenile, like what an angsty girl would rename herself on Tumblr. Honestly, I hate both and can't choose.

Ember is silly. A dying fire? Really? And Amber doesn't appeal to me much, but then I don't like jewel names in general. But at least it suggests beautiful (and lasting!) shapes and colours, whereas Ember is fading into grey and black nothingness. Plus, it's pretty usual as a fn; Ember, I hope, is not.

I prefer Amber, simply because it’s more well-established as a name. It also has parallels in other gem names, while Ember doesn’t really fit in with another class of names.

I just can’t deal with Amber’s (increasing) popularity, and the fact I knew one. Has to be Ember. Even though it probably would cause some confusion, it’s still mid way up the top 1000, so it hopefully wouldn’t be unbearable. I’m also sort of used to hearing Ember because of a YouTube series haha.

AmberI don't like word names at all and ember is definitely more word than name. Amber I guess is "more name" than ember since I've met a few. I also agree with Pie, the meaning is much more pleasing. I do like Em better than Am, but connected with -ber, I still prefer Amber on sound alone.

Amber: a pleasing colour and a semiprecious jewel.
Ember: a partially burnt piece of coal or wood. I prefer Amber. :)
