I like Beatrice. I *adore* Beatrix.

I prefer Beatrice. To me it looks much cleaner and more understated without that X and it avoids the nickname Trixie.

Beatrix feels more feisty and fashionable, like vintage 50s/60s film star stylish, and I have better associations with her. Beatrix Potter adds a more whimsical aspect, and a character association I have with Beatrix (and why I love nn Trixie) reinforces that vintage feel. Beatrice is nice, and I like her, but I don’t love her and she doesn’t have the same meaning to me as Beatrix does.

My history with this name: I first heard it from a friend who was obsessed with Beatrix "Trixie" Belden growing up and swore her first daughter was going to be Beatrix "Trixie". I thought it was weird, not my style. While I still constantly think of her when I see the Beatrix, the connection isn't as strong for Beatrice. Then I read Divergent, and absolutely love the nn "Tris".

Anyway, I don't think it sounds old at all, but I've never actually met a Beatrice / Beatrix of any age. I can see it on any age, and with multiple nn options I feel it's the best name on my list.

ETA - while I typically do like odd letters, I agree that Beatrix just doesn't look as good, real, classic? Not sure what I'm going for there but point is I don't like it.

I think they're both ugly. If I had to go with one it'd be Beatrice, but I'd always call her Bea.

Beatrix just sounds like 'beer tricks'to me. I love Beatrix Potter but that doesn't make me like the name any more (and her name was actually Helen anyway).

I honestly don't care for either but my pick would be Beatrice. I prefer the look and sound of it slightly more. Plus, it sounds more of an "actual" name to me and not something too fictional as what 'Beatrix' conjures up.

I have tried to warm up to Beatrice but I just can't. The name is too dated for my taste and just conjures up images of a harridan-type. Like, the given name of an old and mutual disliked teacher that everyone wishes would retire already.
