Curious — is there some kind of explanation for the possibly non-Japanese names on this list (like Dan and Marie)? Are they actually Japanese and just transliterated to coincide with English names, used by foreigners living in Japan, or actual examples of Japanese parents using foreign names?*previously posted as summitseeker*

In both of these cases, the parents of the babies are Japanese. One other thing that I should have pointed out earlier is that Marie is not pronounced /mə.ˈɹiː/, but rather like mah-ṙee-e /mä.ɾi.e̞/.
