I've always loved it. The only nickname I like is Zan. I want to say it was too popular, yet I've only known one Alexandra, who went by Alex. I've known one Alexandria who went by Alex and one Alexandria who went by Zan. It's a name that I know only by looking at the numbers was popular.
Anyway, if popularity/datedness isn't an issue, I don't see how you can go wrong with it. Beautiful, tasteful name.

I had a colleague once whose one and only name was Zahn: given different parents, she'd have been Alexandra but hers decided they would only ever call her Zahn anyway, so they ditched the long and the complicated. And life was good until she started learning German at high school, and her classmates discovered to their evil delight that Zahn is German for tooth ...
