Alexandra is gorgeous, strong, and queenly sounding. It is no where near as common as Alexander, so I have known very few people with this name.

It's not plain. It's like Victoria or Elizabeth, a powerful name, a little uppity, lost some edge due to overuse and that doesn't damage it at all. I like it. I like it enough that I could use it.

It's an okay name. Can't say I love it, but I know several and still like it (probably more than most other names of comparable popularity)...about the same way I like Maria.

I've always loved it. The only nickname I like is Zan. I want to say it was too popular, yet I've only known one Alexandra, who went by Alex. I've known one Alexandria who went by Alex and one Alexandria who went by Zan. It's a name that I know only by looking at the numbers was popular.

Anyway, if popularity/datedness isn't an issue, I don't see how you can go wrong with it. Beautiful, tasteful name.

I think it's really 80s/90s dated. I know it was used before that time for numerous queens and princesses but it never really got common until the 80s which actually surprised me a bit. It didn't even make the top 1000 until 1915 (statistics are available since 1880) and it didn't make the top 100 until 1984. I find it really really dated. Apart from that I really dislike the nicknames of Ali and Alex. Lexi is better but I also don't really care for it. Its sound doesn't really stick out, there are so many girls named Alexis (former top 5 name) and a few named Alexandria (made the top 100), Alexa (made the top 50) and Alexia. Then you have all the boys named Alexander which is quite similar sounding and a top 10 name.

Alexandra isn't a horrible name and completely usable but I just don't like it.

I much prefer Alexa which is friendlier and not as heavy plus less likely to be shortened. I also think that it feels fresher and I know a really nice girl named this. It may be a bit trendier but I still find it less dated, probably because it was never that common. I also prefer Alexandrina which seems much more classic and interesting and Alexandria as well as Alessandra which both seem friendlier.

I like it a lot. I don't love it but I could see myself using it as a compromise or something. I love Allie and like Alex a lot.

Alexandra used to be on my list. Most Alexandras round here get shortened to Alex so actually I don't hear 'Alexandra' spoken out loud too much.

I traded it for Alexandretta which is a Egyptian place name I picked up from my obsession with the Indiana Jones franchise. While Alexandretta is very much GP, I do love it very much.

In my top ten, I also have Lexa as a name in it's own right. If I were to use Alexandra - or more likely, Alexandretta - I would shorten it to Lexa rather than Alex.

Alexandra actually doesn't happen. Alex happens, and Alexa, and Sandra and Sandy used to happen, but not the entire name on a regular basis.

I think it’s a beautiful classic name. I honestly never hear it in real life, so it doesn’t seem overused or popular to me. It’s very regal sounding. :)

It's so plain that it's lifeless to me. I like it as a middle name, though (e.g. Edith Alexandra, Gertrude Alexandra, Minerva Alexandra).

I do really like Alexandra although I know several people with similar names. I have a nephew named Alex, another nephew with Alexander as his mn, and two good friends who used this for their children (Alexandra, nn Allie; Alexander, nn Alex). In addition, my children have had friends named Alexandra, Alexander and Alejandra. Even though I'm very fond of Alexandra, I'm not sure I'd ever use it. Still, I don't believe it's as common as Alexis and I don't think it's plain at all. Having said all that, I prefer Alessandra.

Love Alexandra. Find all then nicknames boring though, so that turns me off of it.

I adore this name, and it’s our #1 choice if we ever have another girl. I do worry that it’s not “special” enough to match with Theodora, but I almost don’t care because it’s a family name. My grandpa was Alexander nn Sandy, my mom is Sandra nn Sandy, and I have cousins named Alyx and Sandy.

I like Alexandra but don't like how it will likely become Ally or Alex. Short forms of Alexandra are very common so I would not consider using it.
