Today Finland got its first gold metal in 2018
Winter Olympics as Iivo Niskanen won in men's 50 km classical cross-country skiing. So, I started to think about Iivo as a name, especially after my aunt's husband wondered if it will become a new trendy name in Finland (Iivo's popularity has raised in recent years, but it's still quite uncommon name here).
I'd like to like Iivo, but something in it bugs me. Maybe it's the double I (I guess I don't like our double letters, no matter how common they are in Finland), or maybe the sound, which I find too soft and cutesy. I think I prefer the international forms
Ivo and
Yvo, which seem more classic. However, the English pronunciation of
Ivo is also problematic: "EYE-vo" reminds me of a Finnish word "aivot", meaning "brain". Maybe the Finnish "EE:-voh" is better after all.
What do you think of Iivo,
Ivo and/or
Yvo?
