Irene or Esther
actually considering these names for myself...the one i don't choose would be my #1 pick for a girl. still considering other options for myself, though. responses on here won't make me choose for sure of course, just might nudge me in a direction/consider some points.
my mn is Edith, so
Irene Edith
or
Esther Edith ?

It's odd but all of the Irene's I know are around my age or younger. I've always liked it although I've definitely never loved it. Esther I used to hate because it is so close to the word polyester. Also it seems like an old lady name. I no longer hate the name Esther but its only okay. I also used to hate Edith because it made me think of Edith and Archie Bunker. But then I started to like the nn Edie because of EDI from Mass Effect and I started associating Edith with Edith Piaf instead of Bunker. Now I like the name Edith.
Just based on sound I like both combos about equally but since I prefer Irene I chose Irene Edith although my favorite combo is Edith Irene but I know you want to keep Edith as your middle name.

I like both, but prefer Esther.
Tough choice... I think I like Irene better, but only pronounced with three syllables, i-REE-nee, and I assume you're doing the two syllable pronunciation cause the three syllable one sounds awkward with Edith. Two syllable Irene and Esther I like about the same. Hmmm....
Still gonna go with Irene. Irene Edith.

For me, Irene and Esther give two completely different vibes.
Irene is dusty and dated; it reminds me of an old, really strict ballet teacher, the kind with a pointed nose and hair pulled back in a tight bun, stretching her face.
Esther on the other hand is the name of my cousin's wife and she's in her 20s, it was also the name of a classmate's little sister who would be about 18 now, so it's much more youthful to me. I like the sound of it too. Essie is a potential, cute nickname but both Esthers I know go without a nn.
I also love the alliteration of Esther Edith.

Sorry, but I can't stand Irene! I hate the sound of it and I don't think it looks that great either. Esther on the other hand I love, it's beautiful. I have a 9 year old niece with the name and if I didn't have a niece called Esther, it's definitely a name I would have considered using. Not sure I love the sound of Esther Edith though. I think both names are gorgeous, just not in the one combo.
I like Ester. I used to think of it as an elderly name but then i meet an ester. I like it better without the H.
