Dagmar, Fay, Beulah, & Myrtle
I recently made my own running programs in my Runkeeper app, and instead of naming them "Workout #1", or whatever, I gave them these names. So, WDYT of Dagmar, Fay, Beulah, and Myrtle? Like any? Would you use any? Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

I love Dagmar and Fay. I REALLY dislike Beulah and Myrtle isn't much better.

Dagmar: I like it for a character
Fay: I like it, but mostly for a middle name
Beulah: sounds like someone throwing up
Myrtle: ugly

I think Fay is pretty. I actually like Myrtle. I know I'm in the minority and my husband thinks I'm insane for liking it. And I'm sure even if I got him on board I wouldn't use it because I know how out of fashion it's considered. But, I still like it and it'll remain on my guilty pleasure list.

There used to be a regular poster here who had a young daughter named Myrtle. Myrtle Nola. Or so she said.

I looove Nola. Don't love the flow with Myrtle but certainly a bold name choice in modern day. I've been looking at behind the name for origins for a long time but just started the message boards in recent months,so I'm kind of bummed I missed this poster haha.

Whatever happened to her? She had a husband named Kurt/Jim, right?

I don't remember what she said her husband's name was. Best I can tell, she last posted a year ago. I guess she just lost interest.

Dagmar is very outdated here and I can't stop associating it with daggmask (earth worm).
Fay doesn't really sound like a name to me, it's more like a sound.
Beulah is super ugly, big and clunky.
Myrtle sounds dated.

Dagmar has a pleasantly midnight-sun vibe but it's too foreign for my simple tastes!Fay is a bit ambitious IRL - what if she was stout and clumsy? (I once met a Faye who was exactly that.)Beulah is the total pits. It puts other horrors like Blanche and Gertrude into the shade.Myrtle has positive associations for me, human and plant, but I don't much enjoy that yr sound.

Faye is nice, I'd use it for a middle name if I had nothing better.
The rest are just awful for people. Dagmar might be all right if you're a German pinup model from the fifties or something.

Fay is lovely and inspired my username (Aurelia Fay). I dislike the rest.

Haha, clever! Beulah is pretty, and I like Faye or Fae. Dagmar is eh, and Myrtle is a no from me.

Beulah and Myrtle are so ugly All I can think of when I see Myrtle is Myrtle the Turtle. Dagmar and Fay are ugly, too, but not as bad.

I adore Myrtle and would seriously consider using it.I also really like Dagmar and Fay (prefer Faye). While I appreciate Beulah, I can't say I like it.

Hi RDNZL !!!I like all these names but not Beulah. Here in Italy is quite strange to use foreign names. It is a very modern use and foreign names used by Italians are often considered tacky.I would not use any as first name in real life. But I love Fay and it would be a lovely MN. I really like it.

I would never use any of them. I kind of admire Dagmar, but I can't say it without it sounding ugly. Myrtle and Beulah sound comic to me - their sounds are just so ugly in my accent, murdull and byooluh. Good "ironic" names for inanimate objects. Fay seems neither fey nor glamorous despite wanting to be. It's just sort of squishy and weak (and it doesn't help that the only Fay I've ever met, was an unpleasant person).Did you use the names because you like them?

Well, rather strange name pick list, Dagmar is a distant cousin of mine, which doesn't make the name much nicer for me ...Beulah & Myrtle - so much the worse, never everFay/Faye - neither one (+) nor the other (-), rather bland, expressionless name I would start another new attempt

No. I used them because I thought they were comical. I do really like Fay, though.

I like Fay well enough, and if pushed I'd use it.
I'd probably spell it Faye.

I know a lot of/most people really, really dislike Beulah, but I genuinely don't understand it. Can someone explain it? I think it's quite cute! I like Fay, too, but I'm not sure I would ever like it enough to use it. Maybe if it was literally the only name my SO and I could agree we liked vaguely. Myrtle is sweet but again not something I would use. It reminds me of reptiles and Moaning Myrtle. Dagmar gives me a dated feel and I'm not Germanic enough to use it.

I like Beulah, too. I think most dislike it because it's "old" and is consonant heavy, which isn't exactly a popular sound right now. It is a nice name, though, and it would be nice to see it used more.
