Naomi is one of those names that's honestly just cool. It's an atypical combination of letters, but not something the parents created by dumping Scrabble tiles. And you always remember a Naomi's name.

Rachel is hardly objectionable. It's a name I associate with women who know what they want and how to achieve it (same category in which I place Veronica). I find myself more drawn to the Rachael spelling, for some reason - one of the few cases where I prefer the "variant" over the original. But even so... I'm sorry, but I don't think the sound of Rachel is all that attractive. Raquel, imo, is much nicer. And cooler.

I love Naomi. So pretty.

I'm not too fond of Rachel, I think it's a bit too harsh. Naomi is very nice.

I would never think of them as Hebrew names. They are typical names and just common and nice. Nothing special.

I like them both, but feel that they have both surpassed the "Hebrew names" label. Only because they are so popular in many cultures and languages that they seem confined by any category really.

Rachel is more of a standard or classic name. You can never go wrong with it, but people almost invariably know someone with the name and have an opinion on it already.

Naomi still has a somewhat exotic feel, but also is classic and recognizable (a multifaceted beauty!).

I do prefer Noemi to Naomi, but I really love them both.

Rachel was megapopular and shortens to Ray, which I don't enjoy.

Naomi has pronunciation issues: nay-OH-me or NAY-oh-me. I prefer NAYomi but one hardly ever hears it. Same with Irene - I like it with three syllables, unlike most people.

Neither are exciting to me at all.

Naomi is tired, too, imo. I do like Noemi.

I'm so-so about Rachel. It has a certain vibe that I find attractive, and being Biblical is a plus. On the other hand, it's a little harsh. End result is neutrality.

There are a lot of Naomi fans here, but I've never seen the appeal. There's something too exotic-sounding about it that is off-putting to me. It doesn't help that it was the name of the cleaning lady that my family employed back when I was a teenager, and she's the only Naomi I've ever known. Nothing was wrong with her, but nobody wants the first words to pop into your head when you hear a name to be "cleaning lady".

I say Naomi "nie-O-mee", not "nay-O-mee", the way most people do. I can't say the "nay-O-mee" pronunciation. I don't mean that I literally can't say it, but it's just not intuitive to me and I have to make a mental effort to say it. I like the name slightly more the way that I say it.

They're both nice. I think Naomi has a more attractive sound, but I do like them both.
