Years ago, I knew a Birdie--as a "pet" for Gertrude; and no one ever caller her Gertrude. Interestingly - I am still toying with the idea of adding Elizabeth as an additional middle name, but I would never allow myself to be called Libby: and though I would not like Buffy either--Buffy still has a unique nature to it which I might more easily accept before Libby.
