I wouldn't think of 50 Shades...it's a color and common surname so I don't think it's too connected to the book/movie.
When I see Grey/Gray, I just think it's on trend. Grey, for both girls and boys, seems to be the new middle name trend. It makes sense because the sound goes with a lot of names and a lot of celebs have been using it. It's similar in sound to both May/Mae and James but is a little more fresh, I guess.
I think it's handsome enough but it does feel a little generic if it doesn't have meaning to you.
