Grey
I'm pregnant with Baby #2, and while the first name is settled on, the middle name is still undecided. It is a boy. I am leaning toward Grey, which has been a favorite middle name of mine for over 10 years. What are people's impression of the name? My sister's first thought was 50 Shades of Grey. I have not read the books or watched the movies, and while I hold nothing against them, that is definitely not the impression I was going for. Is that something most people will think of/assume?Also does Grey vs. Gray make a difference?Thank you!

I don't like it. I'm not a fan of naming kids after colors.

Grey is the more popular spelling of the color in the UK while Gray is more popular in the US, I think it was. Personally, its a bit short as a first name, but its a good middle with something longer like Alexander.

I like it. And Gray vs Grey definitely makes a difference in my mind. Gray, to me, is a yellowish not so pleasant shade and Grey is a slightly bluish nice shade. Plus I just think Grey looks nicer.

1. It's a middle name which means plenty of people will never know it. Please yourself before you please the masses.2. I think of Dorian Gray before I think of Christian Grey, no matter the spelling. (Actually, I didn't think of Christian Grey at all and I'm sure before this child is in school or anything, no one will give a damn or even really remember 50 Shades anymore.)3. I prefer Grey personally. I think it looks a little more namelike. Maybe because as an American, I see Grey in people's surnames, but Gray is a color.
I like it and I'd use it, especially if I'd loved it for many years.

I think so. I remember a bunch of babies were born with the name after that book came out. I'm not a prude by any means but I don't think its the vibe I would want to give off, either. Whether that vibe be one of a lonely housewife or a BDSM fan. Neither is very flattering. But, I think as a middle name it isn't so bad in that respect. Having said all that, I do like Grey. I much prefer it over Gray.

I wouldn't think of 50 Shades...it's a color and common surname so I don't think it's too connected to the book/movie. When I see Grey/Gray, I just think it's on trend. Grey, for both girls and boys, seems to be the new middle name trend. It makes sense because the sound goes with a lot of names and a lot of celebs have been using it. It's similar in sound to both May/Mae and James but is a little more fresh, I guess.I think it's handsome enough but it does feel a little generic if it doesn't have meaning to you.

Probably most people these days will think of 50 Shades unless they know, for instance, that your maiden name was Grey.I haven't read the book or seen the movie either but that's one of the first things I thought of; the first thing was the color, my least favorite color after brown.

I think it sounds pretentious, noble-surnamey - like Earl Grey, Lady Jane Grey.
Not a very namey color because it only brings to mind ambiguity and drabness. It's alright as a MN and I don't think you should worry about the stupid porn. It reminds me of that, but not enough that I'd avoid it if I loved it... if anyone assumed it was referring to that, it would reflect more on them than on you.

I prefer Grey, but I see it (regardless of spelling) as more feminine.

As a middle name I can't be too fussed about it. I've always thought it was a pretty dumb name however, it is like the most boring colour. I would use the spelling that is more common in your country, I'm Canadian with a friend named Gray and it always bugs people because that's not how we spell it!

I think it's fine as a middle name. I think of the color before I think of Fifty Shades of Grey. I don't think it really matters how you spell it but I personally would go with Grey because that's how I spell the word.
