Clementine has been blooming in my mind, sparking up some namey feelings something fierce this week. I usually do love it, and love it more everytime I see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (one of my top 10 favorite films).
I really like the combo Clementine Frances. I did a poll for many Clementine combos, and though I liked them all, I was pleased to see Clementine Frances take the lead. It's so lovable.
I also love Clemmie. Love. It gives me Road to Avonlea feelings.
My boyfriend, though. He said "it would be a lovely name for an orange cat, but much too cutesy for an adult person." Bother.
Do you like Clementine? If you're a big fan of Charlotte OR Cecily, do you think Clementine could ever contend with or supplant those two safer options?
Also, what do you think of Clemency as an alternative? I like that, too.

I used to love Clementine, but I feel like it's become somewhat predictable over the years. That may sound fatuous, since the name is not at all common, but I've come to regard it as a default quirky name.
I strongly prefer Clementina, and Clemency and Clemence sport the fresh charm with which Clementine once enchanted me.
However, I prefer Clementine to Charlotte, which I find stale. I wouldn't be surprised if Clementine eventually ascended the heights of popularity (as Charlotte has recently done).
For Clementine, I favor a trisyllabic middle name whose second syllable is accentuated: Clementine Susanna, Clementine Georgina, Clementine Jocasta, Clementine Augusta, Clementine Virginia, Clementine Sibylla, Clementine Venetia, Clementine Verena, Clementine Eulalie, Clementine Eugenie, etc.

Clementine is cute, but not sickeningly sweet cute. I think it's fine for an adult, no problem at all. Maybe your bf can grow to like it more? I do prefer Clementine to Charlotte and Cecily. Clemency is horrible imo, I just don't like it at all, sorry.

Apparently, Winston Churchill's wife was always serenaded by military bands etc playing 'Oh my darling Clementine' at top volume, and it bugged them both, because her name was pronounced like Clementeen and they didn't like the song much anyway.
The only one I know spells her name Clementene, and her parents did that deliberately so that there wouldn't be any confusion with the citrus or the song. I think that was very sensible.
I loathe and despise Charlotte. Always have. Cecily is a great favourite - Cecil is a family name but I wouldn't use it for a boy; Cecily is much nicer. In my life, Clementine/Clementene would always come in second to Cecily, but what society in general would think, I can't guess.

I quite like Clementine and don't care which pronunciation gets used. :) I'm not fond of Clemmie, though. it's far too close to clammy for me. But I do think Clementine Frances is divine!

I love Clementine! I like it pronounced both ways and I think it wouldn't seem out of place in today's world. It's one of my favorites! I'm not a big fan of nn Clemmie, though I do like Clem. Clementine Frances is very cute! I might've stolen it if not for my love for Francis (m) as a fn.
I like Cecily as well. (: I'm not a big fan of Clemency or any other virtue names for that matter, but it's not terrible.

I think Clementine is fine for a human, but I'm not a big fan of the ending, although Clementine Frances is lovely. I prefer Clemency, it's quirky, but cool with vintage charm in my opinion. I doubt Clementine would surpass a well established classic like Charlotte, but I can see it having similar appeal as Cecily.

I don't really care for Clementine. I dislike the nicknames Clem and Clemmie and I think it's really clunky. I love 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' but still I don't care for the name. I don't think Cecily is safer than Clementine. Charlotte is safer for sure but I really dislike it. I dislike Cecily's meaning but I love the name. So I'd rather see it being used than Clementine. Clemency is nicer, in my opinion, but not really my style.
Clementine Frances sounds fine but I don't care for Frances.

Clementine is having a little vogue in the UK. I dislike it when it's pronounced like the orange and only mind it a little less pronounced Clemen TEEN
Clemmie is one of the ugliest sounding names I know of, and clammy is the inevitable tease
I do like Clemency though - its softer, more graceful and much more attractive

I didn't initially love Clementine, but I do now - or Clementina. Clementine Frances is beautiful. I adore Charlotte and Cecily, but they needn't compete. Each is lovely, in its own way. They could actually be sisters, if you were keen on matching initials - which I'm not really, but some people are.

Clemency is even worse. Like she'd have siblings named Amnesty and Immunity.
Plus, Clem is such a stereotypical hillbilly-joke name.
