I guess normal is the new outrée.

Eh. They're names.I think Ella Clooney sounds cute, though.

It suggests to me that they know exactly who they are and have got nothing to prove. So they're world famous ... so what? That's no reason to give the kids names they'll spend a lifetime explaining.Which is pretty sane, really. And I really like Alexander, in spite of its immense popularity. Ella is bland and dull and lacking in personality, but there's nothing wrong with it.Actually, of course, that's exactly what's wrong with it.

I think they're both cute and timeless names.I also think its kinda funny how when celebrities name their kids weird and wacky things like Radio Science or River Rocket lots of people get all upset and complain that these poor kids will be stuck with horrible nonsense names but then when a celebrity chooses normal common names they all get called boring and lazy...just what I've noticed, no hate intended

Ella and Alexander are attractive enough and very popular, however, they're just the names new parents with no interest in names in general would select for their children. If anything, I'm a little surprised that Ella isn't more formal (Eleanor, Elizabeth, Gabriella, etc.) to complement Alexander.

Boring, bland and safe, but also timeless and will age well. There are plenty of other names I could think of that fit the timeless, ages well category that aren't so commonly used.

Very practical and decent. I applaud any celebrity who give their children nice names just because it's something that unfortunately doesn't seem to happen too often.
I think I prefer Ella more as a nn but it's still lovely. Adore Alexander

Hi !!!They are quite boring...especially Ella.
I would use something like Amina or Layla / Lyla for the girl.

Hmm. These are good names, in the sense that they aren't kre8iv names (which is what many celebrity children get burdened with) but traditional instead. But at the same time, they also feel kind of boring and insubstantial, because they are so common and traditional. I wish they would have spiced things up a bit by giving the children middle names that reflect Amal's heritage. For example, something like Alexander Faris for the boy and Ella Nur for the girl.I'm also a bit disappointed that they put a subtle reference to the children being twins in their names. Al- and El- just sound too much alike. I'm of the opinion that twins are completely separate individuals with their own identity and so their names should not resemble each other in any way whatsoever. But well, that's just me, I guess. All in all, it could have been much worse, so well done to them.Edit: Fun fact: Ella was the name of Dr. Greene's daughter with Dr. Corday on ER. Dr. Greene was the best friend of Dr. Ross, Clooney's character. I wonder if perhaps the name Ella has stuck with Clooney ever since his ER days? And coincidentally, Dr. Ross ended up having twins himself (with nurse Carol Hathaway), though they were both girls, who were named Tess and Kate.

First thing I thought when I saw the names was dull and boring. I kind of like Alexander, but I think there are far better and more interesting names out there, and Ella is just yawn.

Nice, decent names. A bit boring, but at least it's not one more Bowie or Danger.

Eh. I like Ella but, overall, meh. And not really what I would've expected?

I like them. They are classy.
It's almost bold that they went with traditional choices rather than trendy one. Though, I expected it anyway. I would have preferred to see an Elle instead of Ella though.
Overall, very sweet twinset.

I think they sound nice together.

So bland :( I mean at least they aren't Paysleigh and Braydyn or something but anyway...Ella is probably one of my least favorites, it has such an empty sound. Alexander is a name I've never cared for mainly because of the nickname Alex. Both names are perfectly fine just not exciting at all :( Oh and in terms of celebrity baby name fashion they are really far behind. Ella was already a huge thing about 16 years ago or so when John Travolta used it.

I wonder if their middle names are more interesting? Oh well, I guess boring is better than Audio Science or Pilot Inspektor ;)

I've always kinda liked Audio Science. :)

In my opinion, not when you're famous. I expect celebrities to set trends and do weird things, not pick two names out of the top 20.
vote up1
Maybe they could do it without using their children to accomplish that...
Not saying celebs have to choose names within the top 20, but IMO it's stupid and cruel to use your child to 'stick out'.

Agree with Ninor.

TBH, I don't find "Audio" or "Pilot" particularly cruel. Unusual, different, sure, but cruel? Not really. Audio sounds very much like a name, and career-type names aren't really that wild either. And the names don't have to be like, wacky like the examples. Angelina Jolie did it well-- Maddox, Knox, Vivienne, and Shiloh all charted after she used them-- she "set a trend" (which is what I meant "I expect them to set trends"-- I literally meant in baby naming). And of course discretion should be used. Stuff like 'Kyd' and 'Peanut' are stupid. But the idea of celebrities using unusual/weird names is nothing new.

I agree. I wish they used something more exciting. That being said, they like what they like and some people don't care at all if the names they love are super common.

in their circle ...Probably Ella and Alexander aren't all that common.
For that matter, in their circle maybe NOTHING is actually common.

Amal was (is?) a human rights lawyer and George seems like a no-nonsense kind of guy, so it actually doesn't surprise me that they didn't choose weird names. I can't see the two of them having twins named Periwinkle Bran Muffin and Pluto Nash Bo Bash, or whatever the hell famous people name their kids. They went the solid, respectable route. Now Beyonce's twins...THOSE two will have some names. ;)

oh, for sure ...Yellow Mushroom and Brown Bomber, maybe.
What is it with celebrities and twins? Twins are like the ultimate celebrity fashion statement or something.

It's IVF. They can schedule pregnancies whenever they want to, and if it's twins, they can get a nice set of boy/girl. And, twins are cute, I guess.

Plus, instant complete family for those who are just hoping for one-of-each.
