Re: Octavia nicknames
Octavia is my top name for a girl and has been for quite a while. I'm firmly set that this will be the name of a future daughter, if I am lucky enough to have one.But finding her a nickname is something that I've struggled with. I know Octavia doesn't need a nickname but it also a "big" name for a little girl to wear; plus my family naturally shorten names anyway (think Millie and Ellie can't be nicknamed? Think again as we go my Mill/Mills and Elle/Ells most of the time).I don't like pre-manufactured nicknames that are thought about too much and are a stretch but their isn't much that I think comes naturally from Octavia. I think Ottie is perhaps the most natural and it's kind of cute too. Tavia makes sense but it is pretty long for a nickname so shorten that again and you'd get Tavi (TAY-vee) or just "Tay".The character whom introduced me to this name goes by the nickname "O".http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/117870?sort=rank&pop=ew

I think nicknames probably do evolve naturally, to be honest. I've heard of Octa and Tavia being used, but Tavia, as you say, is long for a nickname. Ottie is cute. I still love Ava, but not sure if it would end up being used all the time - in which case, she might as well be called Ava. Octavia in full is lovely. I like nicknames to be used alongside the actual name.
