I never understood the appeal of this name. I think "hate" is a bit too strong of a word to use to describe my feelings, but there is something about Abigail that just rubs me the wrong way.
It has many good points. It's a solid, respectable, friendly-feeling name; it's interestingly unlike other female names, in terms of sound; and it's a name which is definitely feminine yet not cutesy or flimsy or frilly, which I like. I have nothing but positive associations with it. And yet I don't really like it much, and I couldn't say why. Maybe it's the Ab sound.
Beautiful name I love it So magical...
I like it a lot. It's warm, happy, pleasant, homey, like having a fire in the fire place or fresh baked apple pie.
Yeah my DH digs it, but I'm not so much.
I think it's ugly, but kind of attractive in its ugliness :P This might sound weird, but just like Emma or Bertha it is one of those names that sound hideous to me because they are so old lady and heavy, but have such a long history and unpleasant sound that they are kind of cool in an odd way. So yes, I kind of like Abigail, in the same way I like Emma, Bertha, Drusilla and Mildred. There is something about them. Abby totally ruins it though. Abigail itself is full of history and appealing in that way.
It's a lovely name, with a lovely meaning! It's currently my #1 for girls.
I think Abigail / Abby seems to the 00s like Deborah / Debbie was to the 50s. Sort of peppy and youthful sounding at the time, but with a wholesome and modest, Biblical vibe. It's a decent name I could approve of, but it's nms and I wonder whether, how far, and how fast it will drop out of fashion.
I like Gail a lot and wish it was not short for anything. I don't like Abby, which is doggie to me. And Abigail is meh, alright. The big in it, like the deb in Debra, seems clunky to me.

It makes me think of homemade quilts, so the vibe I get from it is something like: comfy, warm, prudent.
One of my cousins has a 3-year-old named Abigail "Abby"...its current popularity detracts from its appeal to me, but I like hearing it.

It's not terrible, but it has a bloated, pompous feel to it. Abby is much cuter but a tad childish on a grown woman. Gail is frumpy and good only for a middle name.
I just hate it. The reason is simple, I just think everything about it is so ugly. I don't understand its popularity.
I looked Abigail up once on another name site, and under the comments for it some woman was going on about how she named her daughter Abigail and what a beautiful name and everyone talks about what a beautiful name she has and blah blah blah.....intellectually I know that it's a matter of opinion, but we all have those moments when we just can't understand another person's opinion and wonder if that person is some kind of alien, and this was one of those moments lol.

I used to like it a lot, enough I'd have used it in real life. But then by the time I was actually having kids I'd gotten tired of it. It is very common, which doesn't always deter me, but I suppose it lost its sparkle.
