I don't think it fits in fine even in the UK. It's so utterly ridiculous. It floors me that it's so popular in the UK. I. Just. Don't. Get. It. I hope it's a name that never catches on here.
I don't know about the UK, but in the US, Poppy is a not uncommon name for a grandfather. I called my maternal grandfather Pop, and his father was called Poppy by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I think that may prevent Poppy as a girls' name from catching on here.
