Re: Elizabeth and Nicknames (EDITED)
in reply to a message by T_E_T
Most of these don't work well as nicknames for Elizabeth, in my opinion. Especially Bella, Belle or Ella. I'd also feel silly going by Elsa or Lisette. Even though they are forms of Elizabeth they are too well established on their own and I would feel like a Catherine going by Kaitlyn or something, odd. Liliana and Isabella etc. also don't work. I hate far fetched nicknames so maybe that's just a pet peeve of mine. I also dislike the practice of fully established names as nicknames for other fully established names e.g. Eleanora nn Eleanor. If I were called Elizabeth I would go by my full name. Liz is kind of nice too, old Hollywood glamour. Elizabeth Taylor nn Liz and Elizabeth Montgomery nn Liz (Bewitched). So I would be Elizabeth and sometimes Liz or Lizzie, I guess. If I could choose one as my full name (not a nn for Elizabeth) I would definitely be a Lily. I think it really fits me. But I dislike it as a nickname of Elizabeth as it is more of a flower name to me and even though it also started out as a nn for Elizabeth I think nowadays, with Lily topping the popularity of Elizabeth in many countries, it would be silly as a nickname to me personally.

Yeah if I had to pick one of these Elizabeth nn's as a full first name I'd choose either Lily, Lilia, Lillian, Liliana, Lilibeth, Bettina, Isabel/ Isobel, Isabela, Sabela, Ella, Elsa, Elisa, or Elise.Lilia, Liliana, Isabela, and Elisa suit me the most although I really love the others. Those four just match with Marisa the most and my name really suits me. The more I consider it I realize that Elisa suits me the most.
