I know that Cheryl is a made-up smush of Cherie and Beryl but it doesn't deserve to be A) tied to the fifties and sixties and B) declared a non-"legit" name by some name snobs just because it was only created in the 20th century.

The fact that it's a made up name isn't the reason it's tied to the fifties and sixties-- the reason it's tied to the fifties and sixties is because that's when a ton of people used it. Now it's a mom/grandmother name. I can see it coming back when the trends for it are right.
