I know that Cheryl is a made-up smush of Cherie and Beryl but it doesn't deserve to be A) tied to the fifties and sixties and B) declared a non-"legit" name by some name snobs just because it was only created in the 20th century.

Hi !!!Cheryl is often heard in movies and books so I have no problem with it. I dislike but it is just my personal taste because I also dislike Meryl that has the same flow..Byeeeeeeeee

The fact that it's a made up name isn't the reason it's tied to the fifties and sixties-- the reason it's tied to the fifties and sixties is because that's when a ton of people used it. Now it's a mom/grandmother name. I can see it coming back when the trends for it are right.I'm not sure who said it's not legit? Usually posts like this are supposed to be in response to the comments but this doesn't appear to be.
