Viola
What do you think of Viola, pronounced vy-O-la? Or do you prefer VY-o-la or vee-O-la? Opinions on Viola? Violet or Viola?

I prefer Violet all the way! It's got a prettier sound, and I love the flower.

I pronounce it vy-O-la. It's ok, though I prefer Violet.

I prefer vee-OH-la, and I much prefer it to Violet! Violet seems droopy and wilting. Viola has sparkle and vivacity, but if it's pronounced vy-OH-la like the musical instrument it puts me right off. Once I taught a Viola with a beautiful, tragic face like a West African mask. All the Art students wanted to paint her! She was a very cheerful, lively child who played the drums, and the triple contrast of her personality, her appearance and her name delighted me.

I love it! I prefer the "vee-O-la" pronunciation, though. On a side note, congratulations to Viola Davis on garnering an Oscar nomination for her volcanic work in Fences!

I like this name a lot. My friend's grandmother's name is Viola. Everybody calls her Vy. It's elegant sounding, Viola and Violet are in my top names for sure.

I'm not a big fan of Vy-O-luh or VY-o-uh. It just doesn't sound very appealing. When I say it the Vy sort of merges into the O and it starts to sound like vile. I just dislike the sound. VY-o-luh especially isn't very intuitive for me. Vee-oh-luh on the other hand is amazing! It sounds so, so much nicer in my opinion, bright, energetic, a bit exotic (like Violette/Violetta). I think it's way prettier, and it surprises me that it's not more liked, although I guess some don't know it's a pronunciation. I actually like the connection to the musical instrument too. As much as I dislike Vy-oh-luh, I still dislike Violet more due to character associations, so Vee-oh-luh > Vy-oh-luh > Violet.

Viola, with the emphasis on the O, is a gorgeous name. I think I prefer it to Violet - at least as a first name.

It's lovely with any pronunciation, but I prefer vy-O-la. And while I do like Violet, I'd go with Viola because it's more striking.

Preferred pronunciation is vy-O-la. Adore the name. I like Violet as well, but like Viola much better. It's a great blend of dainty feminine, yet has the sought-after V and the simplicity of being short yet totally obvious in spelling no matter how you pronounce it.

Hi !!In Italian is VYOH-lah.
I'm always confusing about pronounciations written. I assume that it is similar to vee-O-lah right? Because with 'wy' starting is read 'vi' right?Violet or Viola?
I can't deside.
Both are dated imo.
Viola is heave for me.
I prefer Violetta. But what is the difference between Violet and Pansy?Byeeeeeeee
