Mabel, it is a lovely sweet name and I much prefer it to Ida which is to old fashioned for me and not a fan of the sound.

I love Ida, BUT I pronounce it EE-da. I would totally use Ida or Alida nn Ida. I love the punchy sound, and even though it's not common, it's recognizable and fits in with modern American names.
I don't understand the appeal of Mabel, it's very syrup-y. I knew a Mabelle and that was slightly better but still sickly sweet to me.
