Not a name I've ever warmed up to; I dislike -een names in general, and teamed with a first syllable rhyming with 'or' they just get worse. One of my naming nightmares features sibs named Doreen, Laureen, Maureen and Pauline, who might just be Pauleen for symmetry.I know a Doreen slightly; she is either Doreen Dorothy or Dorothy Doreen, and I"m too apathetic to check.Allene - I can't even pronounce it convincingly. I like Alannah! And Alan for a boy, but only that spelling.

Personally, the name Doreen reminds me of the word door and sounds rather elderly. But it wouldn't be bad as a middle name. Maybe Elizabeth Doreen, Francesca Doreen, or Anastasia Doreen?Allene is pretty and unique. Though I like Alina better, and again, I would probably only use it as a middle name. I prefer the pronunciation ah-LEEN to ah-LEN, as the latter sounds kind of like Allen.

I think, dear Lord NO!Allene I assume is creative spelling for Aline, which in my view is much prettier and also doesn't look as though the parents wanted a boy to name Allen

Doreen is my aunt's name. It's nice enough. Allene is pretty - I have a friend called Marie Allene.

I wouldn't be sure how to pronounce Allene. Al-een? All-een? That right there is a strike against it, plus the spelling is just unatractive.Doreen is heavy and sour and sounds like an old-fashioned phone or doorbell ringing.
