^This is how I pronounce it. It's the "authentic" Greek pronounciation. I hope the link is not broken, I'm bad at writing pronounciations and this one was the best recording I could find.
I don't think the English pronounciation is ugly but it sounded odd to me when I first heard it on Philosopher's Stone. I would have never guessed it right, I knew nothing about pronounciation rules when I was 10 and I still make mistakes sometimes.
