Re: How do you pronounce Hermione
in reply to a message by Felie
Io (as in Ione, Iolanthe, Iona etc) is always pronounced 'eye-o' in English. So yes, Hermione is the way English speakers pronounce Hermione.A friend has just named her daughter this. I find it very beautiful

It's weird, I always assumed the "eye-o" thing was Greek. It's only in the English pronunciations of Greek names, apparently. Because the normal way to pronounce "io" in English would be "ee-o", but with Greek words pronounced in English it ends up as "eye-o".

Hi !!!I think Hermione is wonderful too. I love nsmes with classic origin and I'm a Potterhead. Unfortunatelly an Hermione with Italian surname is ridicolous also with the Italian pronounciation. It is like saying... Rihanna Rossi or I don't know Jennifer Paglino.. it is simply horrible and kitsch. In these case I would live abroad where people can choose every name without horrible effects with their surnames TT.Byeeeeeee
