Donna was a massively popular name for girls born in England (I think Scotland as well?) in the 70s/80s. You literally would not have a class at school without at least one little Donna. Curiously, my Ecuadorian/English great-grandmother, born around 1885, was called Donna Rosa. I can see how this would seem weird to an Italian!
