I've got a very very specific kind of person in mind for the name... And that's because I went to school with a Shoshannah!
When I went home on my first day of school and was very excited to tell my mother about all my new classmates, she thought I'd go her name wrong. She thought I'd meant Shannon or something else - it was hardly heard of 15 years ago and is barely recognisable still now around here!
She was sweet, with long, fluffy brown hair and a nice enough girl growing up. I think it was a hard name to wear though and a bit of tongue twister at times. There weren't a lot of nicknames that lent themselves well to it either.

I adore it. It's lovely and pretty. It makes me think of an intelligent and beautiful young woman. Or a cute little girl.
It's okay. It's kind of an old lady name.
I've always thought it was gorgeous. It has such a pretty look and sound, and it makes me think of red velvet, maybe because of how luxurious it sounds. It makes me think of a witty and intelligent person.
I went to school with a Shoshanna, and that is exactly how I'd describe her - intelligent & armed with a quick wit. Throughout grade school & high school, every girl (or teacher) I met named "Susan" would always possess an overt intelligence, yet I understand that this is merely coincidence. (I also happen to love the sound of the name Susan - with all accents on the "s" consonant - so feminine!)

I have loved this name since I first discovered it as a child. I don't get a particular image of a person when I hear this name and think it could suit many girls with different personalities. I do prefer the more simple spelling of Shoshana though. It looks a lot less fussy to me.
