WDYTO Faye?
I'm really starting to get into Faye as a first name (I always liked it as a middle name). Is it too unsubstantial? Does it have teasing potential (rhymes with "gay")?
Replies
I really like Faye as well. Don't think it's too unsubstantial I think it's really sweet!
I love it! It's one of my favourite names and has been for a while. Sweet, gentle and elegant, but (particularly with the spelling Fae or Fey) a little dark and mysterious too. I like that it's vintage but has a link to folklore too, which adds a bit of magic. For such a short and often underated name I think there's more to it than it first appears.
May and Mae also rhyme with gay, and nobody stresses. Likewise Jay and Kay.
I find Faye a flimsy, over-decorated name, like a last-minute costume for a fancy-dress party; Fay is better because of having no novelty spellings or silent -e additions, but it's still a dictionary word. I'd never think of using it.

I really, really, really don't get the appeal. Faye to me looks and sounds horrible! What on earth attracts others to it?!
I think it's fantastic. I really like Faye as a first name.
I don't think it's insubstantial. Perhaps it's a bit spritely, but I think the lightness of it is a good thing.
Ibwouldnt worry about teasing. Chances are if someone is going to be teased with gay as a rhyme they would've been teased with it anyhow regardless of their name.
