When I see it, I always think 'Carolina Panthers' automatically, which is sad because I don't even care about football.
Also, I notice the Carol- part of it more when I say Carolina than when I say Caroline. I think because I place more emphasis on the O.
...and now I'm actually not sure how to pronounce it as a name. I think I want to pronounce it differently than I do the state, which is weird.
Ok, I instinctively pronounce them like this:
Caroline as KER-oh-line.
Carolina as Ker-OH-lie-nah. (states and football team)
Carolina as Ker-oh-LEE-nah. (name)
I like the last one the most. Caroline 2nd most.
