Mn help, honoring questions, is a nickname as a given name ok?
I'm not expecting but maybe in the near future, I'm not sure. But I would still love some advice on the boy name I like and girl combo I like.Luke:
1. Is this popular right now? Someone on the board said it and related names are popular (I don't want to end up with the next Addison ).
2. I don't like Lucas, I like Luke. Can Luke stand on its own?
3. Middle name ideas?
4. Any bad associations? Lucy Kate:
1. Too popular?
2. Should it be Louisa, Lucia(loo cee uh) or simply Lucy?
3. What do you think of Kate as the middle name? I like the meanings together and I think they sound good together but I'm not sure if they really do.
4. Bad associations?My honoring question:
A lot of my family members have formal names but go by a socially acceptable nickname (like Tom/Thomas Dan/Daniel). What do you all think of using the nickname, the name you really associate with that person, rather than the formal name? That's why I want to use Kat. A close relative is Kate/Catherine. I think I just want to use Kate though. Thoughts?

I have a nickname as a first name (Cassie) and most people ask if it's short for Cassandra.

A nn as a given name is ok. My grandpas band was John nn Jack and I have a cousin, Jack who was named after him.
I like Luke it's not too popular. I feel like Luca is more popular.
It stands out on its own
Luke Andrew
Nope
Lucy isn't that popular
Simply Lucy. Unless you feel it's too popular
I like it. Wouldn't change it
Nope
It's ok to use something less formal. It's not like you're royalty right

Luke:
1. Is this popular right now? Someone on the board said it and related names are popular (I don't want to end up with the next Addison ).
--Hit or miss depending on your area. Star Wars isn't helping much either.
2. I don't like Lucas, I like Luke. Can Luke stand on its own?
--I think if paired with the right name to give a good flow.
3. Middle name ideas?
--Actually, I think Luke makes a better middle name than first. But I keep going back to Jeremiah (Jeremiah Luke)
4. Any bad associations?
--Yes, my ex-fiance's middle name was Lucas and his dad was Luke. Also I don't like Star Wars.Lucy Kate:
1. Too popular?
--Maybe but it sounds nice.
2. Should it be Louisa, Lucia(loo cee uh) or simply Lucy?
--Louisa is nice. I feel that Lucy can stand on its own. I can't stand Lucia.
3. What do you think of Kate as the middle name? I like the meanings together and I think they sound good together but I'm not sure if they really do.
--I think Lucy Kate sounds fine, as does Louisa Kate.
4. Bad associations?
--None.My honoring question:

Luke isn't a nickname for Lucas. Luke is the usual English form of the name.Lucy's not a nickname either.Kate's kind of a filler MN.As for bad associations...for Luke, there's Luke Castellan from the Percy Jackson series. As for Lucy...there's Lucy from Peanuts and Lucy from Elfen Lied (though I don't think most people who aren't anime fans will recognize the latter).

I know Luke as a standalone better than I know it to associate with Lucas, probably due to a Christian background and growing up as a Star Wars fan.

I am not particular with specific versions or spellings for names of others, as variants, at least to me, are just personalized manifestations of the same essential root. So to me Katherine, Kathryn, Catherine, Katie, Katee, Kate, Kat, Cat or any of the various spellings or versions are essentially the same meaning - even among different pronunciations or formats. My personal take on traditional names compared with nicknames is to legally assign the formalized lengthier version, so the child can more easily use as many shorter nicknames, pet-names, or other more distant versions upon circumstance at preference; however, before this, I would honor your thoughts - as you--as guiding parent / guardian would know the environments, circumstances, or conditions under the child grows best.

Luke can and very often does stand on its own. I don't especially like it but it's not bad. Luke Anderson seems better than Luke Addison; Addison is one of those colorless, androgynous surnamey names for girls that are very popular right now. Anderson has a bit more backbone and is more emphatically masculine than Addison.I really do not like the name Lucy. It sounds goofy and cheap and wannabe-posh all at the same time, and Lucy Kate is so damn precious. Lucia I like, and Lucia Kate is okay. I pronounce Lucia like Loo-SEE-a; there's a couple different ways it's pronounced and that alone is a deal-breaker for me, though I do like the name.I think it's fine to use the nn Kate as a middle name.

I also hate the name AddisonThanks for your opinions. Anderson is nice. I like Lucia said the same way you did.

LUKE
1. I think it's moderately popular (As in it's not overused but it's also not rarely used_
2. I think Luke can stand on it's own just fine
3. Luke Jonathan, Luke Martin, Luke James, Luke Anthony, Luke Malcolm
4. No bad associations that I can think ofLUCY KATE
1. Suspect it's a bit more used than Luke but still not overly popular
2. Louisa is a completely different name, if you want a variant I#d choose Lucia but I prefer Lucy
3. Lucy Kate sounds nice together, not a fan of using a shorted version of a name as an actual name but it does sound nice and if you like it it's good!
4. No bad associations

Luke:
1. If you're in the US, Luke is popular. It was ranked 28th in 2014 (2015 data hasn't been released just yet), and it has been climbing slowly but surely.
2. I think Luke can stand on its own. It doesn't sound overly cutesy or anything. It works on a small child as well as an adult.
3. Luke William, Luke Daniel, Luke Anthony. I don't know. This is tough. Luke is a short name and it just sort of cuts off with the hard sound of the K, making things sound a bit choppy or awkward that follow it. My cousin is Luke Ryan, but I just remember my dad joking and calling him "Lou cryin'" as an infant. Also, I thought of Luke Oliver, but that was immediately followed by "puke all over." :\
4. Nope.Lucy Kate:
1. Lucy is ranked 62. I don't know where your line is for "too popular," but it only represents 0.220% of the total female births for 2014.
2. Louisa = Lucy is a bit of a stretch, but it could be done and Louisa Kate sounds okay. I don't care for Lucia Kate. I think Lucy Kate is super cute and youthful without being cutesy or juvenile, if that makes sense. Lucy can work on many ages, and if she doesn't like Lucy, she can be Lu / Lou or Elle, although that second one is probably as much a stretch as Lucy for Louisa!

You have a great way of expressing yourself. I feel the same way about nn for legal names that's why i felt conflicted about using a short form for a mn. Ironic, my mom hates Lucy Kate and her opinion does get consideration from me (even though I'm almost 30).

I personally think that using nicknames as names is alright. It's really just fun! I don't know why anyone would be upset.Luke:
1. Luke is a name that never went away. It's one of the oldies that are pleasing to the ear and simple. I don't know if it's popular currently, but it's definitely not going to be rare anytime soon.
2. I can see Luke standing on its own. I never liked Lucas that much either.
3. I think I would use another simple, classic name as a middle name. Like Daniel, Philip, William and others like that. If you want something more fancy I would go with Axel, Atlas or Memphis. My final choice would probably be Atlas, but that's just my opinion.
4. I think Luke would be associated with Luke Skywalker from Star Wars a lot. It depends on you if you think that's bad or not. Other than that, I think it's a name that doesn't have any more associations. None on the top of my head, that is.Lucy Kate
1. Kate is a little too popular for my taste, but Lucy I can handle.
2. Lucy. Just Lucy is great.
3. I believe that having Kate as a middle name makes Lucy sound more common, if that makes any sense. Here are some other ideas: Erin/Eryn, Danai, Helene/Helena/Elena, Justine, Regine, Noa, or Min.
4. Lucy could be associated with the movie Lucy which came out sometime in the last few years, but it's a forgettable movie so that wouldn't be a problem. Other than that, it's a name that reminds a lot of us of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds by The Beatles. As a person named Jude, I don't find it that bad!Good luck with the naming!

I love atlas! Helene is actual a family name. A beatles association is always a good thing (and i adore hey Jude)

Luke:
1. Is this popular right now?
Yes, it is - if you add up the popularities of Luke, Lucas, and Lukas, they're more popular than #1. This doesn't mean they're common ... they make up just a little more than 1% of boys born, which is about as popular as Kyle when it was peaking (#18) in 1990. I think it will be somewhat common among his peers, at a level that will probably be pleasant and not annoying.
2. Can Luke stand on its own? - Yes.
3. Middle name ideas? - depends what you like. I'm not into Luke so I don't have any suggestions. All that comes to mind is, I think it would sound good with an A name. Luke A---- ?
4. Any bad associations? Luke Skywalker; the word look, lucrative, filthy lucre. Def not bad enough to stop youLucy Kate:
0. If you like Luke, you might figure that you only want one of Luke or Lucy.
1. Too popular? Not yet... probably getting more popular. I don't think it's likely to get so common as to be annoyingly so.
2. Should it be Louisa, Lucia(loo cee uh) or simply Lucy? - Lucy for Lucia works, Lucy for Louisa seems too contrived IMO. If it were my name I'd rather be Lucia "Lucy" / Lucia Katherine "Lucy Kate." But if you like Lucy alone, it does stand alone fine.
3. What do you think of Kate as the middle name? - It's fine. Doesn't dovetail with my personal taste, but seems nice enough. I don't mind the short form as a middle name instead of Katherine, but I'd rather have Katherine as my own middle name, than Kate.

Luke:1. Luke has been in the Top 50 (in the US) for the last 15 years. I think it's similarly popular in most other English-speaking countries. That said, I wouldn't compare Luke with Addison...it would make more sense to me to compare it to something like Adam.2. I don't like Lucas either, and I've never thought of Luke as a nickname. They're just different versions of a Greek name: Lucas is the Latin version while Luke is the English version (so, yes, I think it can stand on its own).
Lucy Kate: 1. Not too popular.2. I think Lucy can stand on it's own, but I like several longer Luc- names, too. You should go with whatever you prefer.3. I don't like Kate much as a middle name, especially for Lucy...but Louisa Kate sounds better imo.
