I prefer Fay.
I absolutely love, love, love Fae! Short, simple sweet, but particularly with this spelling there's some personality, mystery and darkness behind it.
I love Faye & Fay. They're sweet, charming, and pack a big punch for small names.
The Fae spelling is too high-fantasy fangirl for me.

I hate this name with a passion. I don't get the appeal of it at all! It sounds crude and harsh and unfinished. There are millions of names out there, why would anyone choose Faye?!
Reminds me of the grumpy secretary at my elementary school who seemed like she must suck on lemons all day. Told me not to lean on the desk "because it wasn't ladylike"
It's a 1930s-born name, to me. Old lady. Also I've never liked it because fey is an adjective meaning creepy. nmsaa.
There are worse names of course ... I rate it about the same as I rate Tia.
