Emmanuel / Immanuel
Which spelling do you prefer?
What's your general impression of it?
Do you think it has a strong religious connotation, or not? (for example, I think Ezekiel, Enoch, Moses, and Hosea all have strong religious connotations while names like Daniel, Matthew, John, and Gabriel, despite their origin, don't).

I definitely prefer Emmanuel. That spelling I would argue also has more overt religious connotations - to me, anyway. Immanuel just makes me think of Immanuel Kant.
I love both spellings with a slight preference toward Emmanuel. I think it's a lovely, strong name that sounds warm and friendly.
Yep, it's a very religious name with obvious connotations. I like that about it.

I love Emmanuel (this spelling) and it's one of my absolute favorites. I don't see it as religious but when I've posted about it here I always get the "strong religious connotation" replies. It doesn't bother me though. I would use it anyway because personally I don't find it religious and I really don't care if people think I used it because of religious reasons. I would put it in the same category as Daniel and Gabriel but I guess many wouldn't.
I think it's strong yet soft at the same time. It's kind and sweet but not weak.
ETA: I don't pronounce Emmanuel and Immanuel the same. I pronounce Emmanuel with an Em-sound and Immanuel ee-manuel.

I think all the names you listed have religious overtones. But I think Emmanuel is milder than some names. It has a more general feel, I guess.
I like the E. I like the sound, but wouldn't use it myself except for honoring purposes.

I prefer the Emmanuel spelling; it looks "right" to me as that's the only spelling I've seen in use. I use, and have only heard, the four syllable pronunciation however I've never heard it as beginning with a short "i" sound, as shown here at BtN, but rather a short or long "e", not that I've heard the name all that much. If you prefer the short "i" beginning, it would make sense to me to go with the "I" spelling.
I'm not particularly drawn to it but I think it's a nice name. I agree with your religious-feel groupings and, for me, Emmanuel fits much more so with Ezekiel's class than with Daniel's.

I adore Emmanuel. I wish my husband would let me use it!! I think there is a tad religious connotation, but not enough for me to dislike the name (and i've very anti-religion)
Well I love it, obviously, as it's DS#1's mn. Emmanuel is the spelling we decided on, simply because we prefer the look of it. I find it to be a very strong name, which is what we wanted. The main reason we picked this name was the Biblical connection and fantastic meaning.
