Amadeus
What do you think of the name Amadeus? Usable? Pretentious? Can you think of any good nicknames?

* Ellen * Astrid * Eira * August * Isidore * Emmanuel *
but she wants to be sure 'cause you know sometimes words have two meanings

I think it's cool as a middle; not truly unusuable, but a very bold choice as a first. I like the previous suggestion of Deo as a nickname. If you don't mind tweaking the first vowel sound, Ames might work, relates meaning-wise. Amos comes to mind also.

I'm not a huge fan of boys' names ending in -us (they're all a little pretentious imo), and Amadeus specifically reminds me of the movie of the same name in which Mozart is portrayed as being really boorish...I'm in love with Amadeo and Amado, though. If I was actually going to have a kid anytime soon, those would be in my top 10 for boys' names. So, I think it's usable, but there aren't any nicknames I like for it.

Mmm part of me feels like Amadeus is a bit hipster try-hard..I've contemplated Amadeus as my husband and i are both classical musicians and we enjoy Mozart, however not sure if we would ever use it...Our go to nickname is Ame "ahmi"

Silly as a first name, awesome as a middle name. Can't think of any nicknames, sorry.

I like it and I think it's highly usable. I fail to see any problems with it, and I don't think it's pretentious either. I would probably use Deus as a nickname, if any. I also like Amandus.

I really like Amadeus! It probably is pretentious, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I love pretentious names haha. I mean I have Wolfgang on my list and I like Amadea for a girl too. So I think it's a cool name. Nicknames maybe: Day, A, Deus, Ameus (A-may-us).

I like it, especially its connection with Mozart. However which way are you pronouncing it? I have no preference but it may be confusing for the child if people keep pronouncing his name in different ways.Nicknames:
Amedee
Amadeo
Dee
Deus
Ama
Amadi
Amado
Amal
Amar
Deo
Des

I absolutely adore Amadeus, but I haven't got the guts to actually use it. I don't think it's pretentious, but most people will see it that way. Also, I can't think of a nice nickname to make it more usable in everyday life.

I think it's a bit much as a FN but it'd make a great MN. :)Day would be a good NN.

Usable now.
A tad pretentious, but not the kind of pretentious that makes me feel silly saying the name out loud.
I prefer Amadeo, it seems friendlier. Amadeus makes a better a middle. I think there's an Amadeo at my kids' school, actually.
I think Deo would be a decent nick for Amadeus.
