Emmanuel & Abraham
I've been thinking about these two names a bit lately. Not sure how useable they are..
Emmanuel - I have always loved this name, however my husband has not loved it. I can't seem to convince him on this one, however i'm trying :) I'm worried that it seems to exotic sounding with our last name Arnold.
Abraham - I keep coming back to this one. Abraham is the name that my mother in law originally wanted to name my husband. I love the possible nicknames of Abe and Bram. Abraham is also that name of my grandmothers brothers. I do wonder whether Abraham is 'too American' (the whole Abraham Lincoln) . I also wonder how clunky Abraham Arnold also sounds.
What are your opinions? (One middle name MUST be Stewart)
What about middle names:
1) Abraham ______ Stewart Arnold / Abraham Stewart _____ Arnold
2) Emmanuel ______ Stewart Arnold / Emmanuel Stewart _____ Arnold

I like the feminine version of Emmanuel, Emmanuelle, so I think it sounds great. The middle name of Stewart looks like a good choice.
Obviously I love Emmanuel! I don't think Emmanuel Arnold flows very well though and if DH doesn't like it, then maybe just leave it? Abraham I also love, it's so strong and handsome. I think Abraham Arnold sounds great and both Abe and Bram are good nns. What about the possibility of Abraham Stewart Emmanuel Arnold?
Both names are very Biblical to me, which I obviously personally love. I would keep that in mind because I think most people will assume you are church goers, as these names are a bit more "Biblical" and uncommon than say Jacob, Joshua, Thomas or David and others.

Hey! Haven't "seen" you in a while. Glad you're back. :)
I love Emmanuel! I did post about it long ago and it seemed like most people here think of it as a religious name. I don't. Not at all. Maybe because I'm not religious. Anyway, I love the sound and look of it. I also like that there is no real nickname.
I think Emmanuel Arnold sounds great but then I really like lots of vowels.

Well of course I'm voting for Abraham as I like the name, it's on my PNL, and I have a grandson named Abraham nn Bram. I don't really like Emmanuel anyway.
Aren't you an atheist? Emmanuel seems to me to be overtly religious, in a way that other Biblical names are not.
I have no idea how American Abraham is. Lincoln is the first thing I think of when I hear the name.
What I don't get is why "American" somehow equals "undesirable". It's interesting that I've seen Britons and Australians ask about, or comment upon, names being "too American" several times, but I've never seen Americans say a name is "too British."

I love Emmanuel for it's meaning. I would have loved to have used it as a middle name, but my husband wasn't on board. I don't think it sounds too exotic with Arnold.
Emmanuel Stewart Bram Arnold
Emmanuel Kai Stewart Arnold
Emmanuel Reid Stewart Arnold
Emmanuel Finn Stewart Arnold
Emmanuel Tate Stewart Arnold
Abraham is okay. I love Bram a lot and don't mind Abraham. I don't think it's too clunky with Arnold at all.
Abraham Ben Stewart Arnold
Abraham Stewart Bernard Arnold
Ugh, I don't know. I'm no good at three name combos.

I think they are both perfectly usable. They don't flow the best with your last name, but I've heard worse.
Abraham Lincoln is not the first thing I think of for Abraham. I think of the biblical character. Plus Abraham is not very common in the US.
Lincoln, OTOH, definitely reminds me of the president. I think it's much more "American".
