Bernadette is super cute. I love the "dette" part so much, it's so happy polka-doted. Bertie is a sweet lil nickname for it, too. Both Sylvia and Clea are beautiful nymphlike names, I enjoy them. Salem is also really resonating with me lately. I don't know if it's because autumn is in the air, or because I'm dating a boy from Massachusetts, or what. I see it as a feminine name (Salem "Sally" is a GP of mine)...though I don't see why it couldn't be male. Your Sam idea makes more sense than my Sally.
