Walter vs Wallace
Husband and I were both talking about Walter and Wallace today. We like both but I think i'm leaning more towards Wallace and he towards Walter. 1. Which do you like better?2. Which do you think will be less popular?3. Which sounds nicer with potential siblings Rufus and Theodora4. Do you like the nickname Wally?

1. Walter
2. Wallace has a long way to go before it even catches up to Walter's popularity (US), so I think it will continue to be less common for a long time. FWIW, I think Walter is still far from being a popular name, but YMMV.
3. Walter, by miles.
4. I don't hate Wally, but I'm not a fan. It sounds dimwitted. My four-year-old nephew was called Wally for a little while, but I'm so glad it didn't stick. He's strictly Walter or Walt now.

I can't say I like either one, but I think I'd pick Wallace, if I had to.
Walter isn't awful but right now in the US there's a popular children's book character called Walter the Farting Dog.

ha.Thats funny. I guess for a little boy that could be a horrible namesake.. or depending on the boy a funny one. I think my cousin would get a kick out of sharing his name with a farting dog. (He's 8 and thinks farting is the most hilarious thing ever.)

1. Which do you like better? - Wallace, definitely. Strong, handsome, yet adorable on a little boy. I realized and came to terms with the fact that I dislike Walter awhile ago; the only reason I held onto it for so long is because I adore Walt. Now I admit that I'd much rather name a son just Walt than Walter.2. Which do you think will be less popular? - I'm not sure. Personally, I think Walter will rise the most in popularity, because it has a similar sound to Oscar, which seems to be gaining.3. Which sounds nicer with potential siblings Rufus and Theodora - I think Walter sounds like the best fit for those siblings, I must say. Still, Wallace doesn't sound bad at all with them and could still work nicely.4. Do you like the nickname Wally? For Wallace, yes. Very sweet and Flash-like. It could work for Walter, but I don't think it's as intuitive as it is with Wallace.

I like Walter better. It has some old time charm. Wallace sounds nerdy to me.Neither is popular, but I think Walter has a better chance of a comeback.Walter sounds better with Rufus and Theodora. No, I don't like the nickname Wally. I'm not sure how widespread this is, but where I'm from "wally" was another word for "nerd."
